Academy players playing high school

We've been having some debate on whether there is a loop hole where academy players can play for their high school. Typically private schools. I do not think it is allowed for a private or public school, but does anyone know otherwise?

I do not not think you will ever get a straight answer to this question.
Academy rosters can be fluid, if a player is on the USSDA website roster he can not play in any other competitions (i.e. High school).

But that does not preclude a player from playing an entire high school season and/or a Region III season and then be added to the Academy roster in December. I have seen this done with most of the academies in NC for one season or another.

also, Developmental Players (DP) on academy rosters are not under the same competition restrictions as are full time academy players.

This sure appears to be an opportunity for a high school player to play out the rest ot the Academy season.

I think you are correct. It's a very interesting post from the Fusion. I know they took some Triangle based players for their teams during the May tryouts. Not sure if the long distance to/from practices is leading to some attrition. Just speculation on my part.

They are not just looking at one team either.

Only 17 players on their U18/19 roster. Seems very low.

http://ncfu.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=3941320

But they're winning, and beat NCFC.

I wonder how many NCFC Elite players will head over to Greensboro for a free 'evaluation' in a few weeks?

((sarcasm begin))
I'm sure they don't want to prevent someone from getting a chance to play USSDA since they already had the opportunity to take them during their own academy tryouts in May but decided to pass on them instead. They wouldn't want to hold someone back.
((sarcasm end))

Some players from the Triangle? the 18/19 team that is posted has 7 of 17 players from the Triangle.
3 from Durham area
2 from Knightdale
1 from Raleigh
1 from Chapel Hill

Have the kids in the Piedmont chose High School?

NC Fusion should try to rent field space from NCFC in Raleigh to accommodate these Triangle-based kids

Is this some sort of new deal? Kids travelling to play for these teams? When I played club well before the days of academy, my Charlotte Soccer Club team (U18 year) was composed of 4 kids from winston-salem, 3 from Asheville, 1 from Greensboro, 1 from Boone, 1 from Salisbury. If you count the fact that I was from Huntersville only 7 of our 18 players were from Charlotte. That was how things were back then. Players went where they had to go to play with the best players. Now everything is watered down with 2 academy teams just in the charlotte area. The state needs less teams. But it is a money grab for the clubs. And who in their right mind would turn away a families money if they are willing to be on the CSA North "fucsia" team?

That is exactly his point!

What surprises me about 7 of 17 is that NC Fusion is an alliance of two large soccer clubs and one would think that between the two clubs they would be producing at least 18 players willing and able to play at the USSDA level.

I know players are willing to travel and have been.

It seems sometimes these "best teams" kick butt until about U15 or U16 because they have the best athletes. But once other teams catch up athletically and they have to win with skill and tactics they go through an adjustment period.

it is the 18 worst players that the club has that the club is still willing to take money from in order to field a 9th team in an age group. Like I said it is a money grab with the clubs. Back when I played we had a Blue team and a White team. If you werent in the top 36 then you had to find another club. WHen kids started flocking from other places to play for us some very good players were forced to find new clubs. The club didnt just say " well hey now we will just make a "red" team as well. Because that team could not compete.

Just another point on all of this. The club game is also so political these days it is ridiculous. We have 60-70 boys try out each year for 40 or so spots between varsity and jv at our school. And surprise, the kids that make our team are not always all from the top club teams. There are other kids who do not make the top teams around here for God knows what reason. We take the 40 best guys. Regardless of where you play.

Very true, as seen first hand in the Triangle area. Politics can run rampant in clubs but not really in high school soccer.
